Tuballoswing Florence Swing n Blues Workshop

So this weekend, our travels took us to Tuscany, Italy, for the first time, as we were invited to teach Swing and Blues Workshops in Florence. We flew from a cold Gatwick into Pisa, which was warm and sunny.

Dancers came from all over Italy, including the North, South and Florence itself, for the two days of workshops in Lindy Hop, 20’s Charleston and Blues. We taught two levels, at the workshops, which were great fun and we could see a difference, in everyone from start to finish. It was particularly nice to push the students in the blues class and show them how improve their hip movements.. They all produced amazing results, as the Italian’s can really move their bodies..

Students from the Blues workshop, relaxing their hips..

Every workshop, was followed by food and fun conversations with new and old friends. Pasta, Pizza, Frutta di mare, Tirimasu was always on the menu.. Sono diventato grasso a Florence.. :-)

The evening party, had an amazing atmosphere, with over 200 people dancing to the ‘Swing Valley Band’ and DJ Luci Q, from Rome. We got everyone up for the Big Apple, The Shim Sham, Jam circles and other improvised big apples, with a whole lot of general crazy party things going on until 4:00am..

We had such a good time in Florence, including a bit of sightseeing in the centre, where we visited the Duomo and Piazza’s. We would like to thank Antonio, Giulia and the whole Tuballoswing community in Florence for an great weekend.  Tiamo.. A Presto..

Hop Potato 2015

Last weekend took us back up to Hop Potato, an event run by the students of Aberdeen University Swing Dance Society, at Aberdeen University. It was our 3rd time, at Hop Potato, following a two year break, where the teachers, this year were Joseph & Charlotte (UK), Chris Harm (AU) and Giedre (LT), who made a great fun team.

Dancers, Students and Alumini came from all over Scotland, for 2 days of workshop, plus 3 nights of social dancing with live music, followed by Blues parties each night.. We had a great time with the students, who were amazing, as we could see the transformation, as their dancing and technique developed over the weekend.

JiveSwing Canterbury

On Monday 9th March 2015, JiveSwing opened it’s doors to a group of keen people, of all ages and abilities, to our new Lindy Hop class  in the town centre of Canterbury, Kent. The venue, Mrs Jones Cafe, was chosen for it’s nice vintage feel, nice wooden floor, which goes with our vintage dance.

New people attending an absolute beginners class in Canterbury, Kent.

The Jiveswing Kent team, lead by JiveSwing teachers James & Charlotte Maughan-Jones and venue Manager Karen Middlemiss, was very pleased with the influx of new people, from around Kent and further afield, along with how quickly everyone had picked up the steps and started to social dance on their very first night!

If you know anyone in Kent, please send them along to join in the fun at JiveSwing Canterbury. !!

Swing On The Beach Winter – Pescara

Just got back from Swing on the beach, winter edition, held in the Grand Hotel, literally on the beach. Dancers came from all over Italy, for 2 days of workshops, 2 nights of dancing with the Billy Bros. Swing Band, plus competitions and more..

It was great fun for Charlotte and I to work with our amazing fellow teachers Max and Pamela, which made for a great weekend. The hotel was so nice, with friendly staff and the food was absolutely yummy too.. All 4 courses !!

The students, split into various levels, were a joy to teach, as we shared our passion for swing dancing and lots of fun moments and my own Jamalian Language, which is a mix of Jamaican, English and Italian. The atmosphere of the evening, was great and the Billy Bros, played some amazing songs for the competitions..

We would like to say a massive thanks to Roberta and Maurizio, our italian famiglia, for putting on another amazing event and allowing us to be part of it.. They are passionate organisers with a big heart..
