SWIZZLE SIZZLE SWING III – DUBLIN

This week, JiveSwing’s Joseph & Charlotte, jetted off to Dublin, Ryanair style, as they were invited to teach at Swizzle Sizzle Swing 2015, for their third time, to raise money and awareness for K.I.D.S  Project Charity.

Within 45mins of landing, in Dublin, J & C were whisked off to Francesca Arkin’s Stage and Dance Academy, to teach some of the children, that the K.I.D.S charity were funding.  Around 80 children, of all ages, packed the hall, as Joseph taught them the 20’s Charleston Stroll. The hall was full of energy, as the children quickly picked up the routine and performed it several times. It was amazing to see.

At the end of the class, they treated us to a show. It was amazing, to see the hard work, that Francesca, had done with the children. :-)

On Saturday morning, it was time to teach the adults, so a group of us travelled to the studio,  in the back of a van, refugee style.. Not quite the Rock Star lifestyle lol..

We had a great group of students, who worked really hard, as we focused on new moves, but with a good focus on techniques and musicality, which made instant improvements.  The Saturday evening dance, was full of energy, as Joseph and Charlotte got everyone up for strolls and danced with everyone, sharing the JiveSwing love, till the small hours of the morning. A really friendly atmosphere.

We were so proud of everyone’s achievements, but particularly some of the students in the Improvers group below, which included one absolute beginner, who learnt a whole routine, that they agreed to perform that same night, at the Social Dance. It was awesome…

K.I.D.S. organiser Cora, was absolutely amazing and proved to be a true superwoman on the weekend, hosting, looking after us and managing the weekend, with such passion and perfection. Massive thanks to Cora for organising such an amazing and friendly weekend, along Keith Roberts and all other volunteers, who stepped in to make things happen. It just felt like one big party, with friends and family, learning lots, but having lots of fun too, all in the aid of helping young children via K.I.D.S. Charity.

JiveSwingin’ on the Pier – Southend

JiveSwing.Com, were invited to dance at the Maritime Festival on Southend Pier, last Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th June 2015. Dancers from the JiveSwing Southend class were there in force, supported by the JiveSwing Crew and lots of dancers from other JiveSwing classes, throughout Essex and Hertfordshire, which created a great atmosphere.

The public gathered around on both days, as JiveSwing teacher Pete (with the mean feet) Thompson, taught a beginners fun Lindy Hop class and DJ Michael (Green Lantern) Proctor, spun and swung the tunes to keep everyone dancing.

On the Sunday, ‘Charlie’s Angel’s’, JiveSwing’s all female performance troupe, travelled down to provide the performances, as further entertainment for the crowds. Onlookers settled into their deck chairs on the pier to watch the show.

This was followed by the JiveSwing Stroll and other strolls, as everyone danced the Lindy Hop to Swing music, all afternoon.

Huge thanks to JiveSwing Essex’s Event co-ordinator Nicola Woods, for project managing the dancing part of the Maritime festival, along with other members of the JiveSwing team, that helped behind the scene in some way, with various things that helped to make it all possible.

JiveSwing All-Dayer 2015 – Frankie 101

So on the last weekend in May, the JiveSwing team stayed near home in London Watford, for their annual JiveSwing All-Dayer. The All-Dayer is a local workshop, which attracts dancers primarily from our local JiveSwing scene.

This year, the teachers for the workshops, were Joseph & Charlotte, Alex & Sarah from JiveSwing.Com, plus our very special guests, all the way from France Peter and Chloe. :-) All students in the workshops, were highly focused as they soaked up lots of new fun moves, ideas, styles and techniques, from all teachers.

During the evening, we had our 1940’s May Ball to celebrate Frankie’s Manning’s Birthday, which attracted over 150 people from our local scene and other parts of the UK, including including London, Middlesex, Essex, Hertfordshire, Kent, Oxfordshire, Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire etc.

The The Polka Dot Dolls’ &  ‘The Cliff Longhurst and the Knights of Swing Orchestra’

The evening was exciting, featuring top UK girls trio ‘The Polka Dot Dolls’, plus an 18 piece Orchestra,  ‘The Cliff Longhurst and the Knights of Swing Orchestra”, who played an array of authentic swing arrangements, that kept the floor busy and swinging hard. We really had such a ball, as the room was filled with strolls, jams, cabarets by teachers and students, plus the usual JiveSwing excitement to remember Frankie.

This was supported by JiveSwing DJ Michael AKA ‘The Green Lantern’, who kept the floor moving and grooving, between and after the band, with a  mix of swing and blues, until 1:00am. :-)

This was one really nice day, which seemed like a day out and a party with friends and family, with lots of fun, laughter and love all around. Huge thanks to all the JiveSwing team and all artists, that pulled together to make the event happen. :-)

Looking forward to doing it all again at the JiveSwing All-Dayer 2016  :-)
