JiveSwing Jazz Festival 2016 – Watford

Last Sunday 24th July, approximately 1,700 people gathered for the 4th JiveSwing Jazz Festival, held at Cassiobury Park in Watford, for a sunny day of Music, Dancing, Dance Classes and Cabaret.

This amazing FREE event is sponsored by HLF and Watford Council, with JiveSwing.Com being the event organiser, providing the entertainment and pulling it all together.

The day started with recorded music, from the fabulous Jeep, Jump Jive, playing out of their military Jeep, then Live Music from the Tony Oliver Jazz Band and Down for the Count, featured above, from London

Over a thousand people were mesmerised, as the JiveSwing Hoppers and Charlie’s Angels dance troupe, took to the floor with their high energy Lindy Hop and Jazz Routines, just before we had the internationally acclaimed JiveAces, as seen on ITV’s Britain’s Got Talent.

After a warm set and a number of classes, Joseph, Charlotte , Mike Down for the Count’s band leader and the JiveAces took to Jeep Jump Jive’s Jeep, for a quick break, before the final set by Cliff Longhurst and his 18 Piece Jazz Knights, Swing Orchestra

We’d like to say a huge thanks to all musicians, performers,  all the JiveSwing Crew and Watford Town Council, for making last Sunday, an amazing JiveSwing Jazz Festival.

Last week, JiveSwing teachers Chris Barclay, accompanied the JiveSwing Hoppers and Charlie’s Angels to the first Hangar Dance at the historic Shuttleworth, in Bedfordshire, who host a collection of amazing Edwardian Flying Machines.

The JiveSwing Hoppers opened up the show, during the day, performing just outside the Hangar with exhilarating Lindy Hop numbers, which got the audience going.

This was followed by some of the Charlie’s Angels team, one of the UK’s leading all female dance troupe, above

Finally, JiveSwing teacher Chris Barclay got lots of people up, on the dance floor, to learn a few steps, before dancing to the a faboulous DJ set from the amazing Jeep Jump Jive and the live music from the stunning Polka Dot Dolls, an all female trio, who kept, the crowds going :-)

Lindy Hop Fiesta Hamburg 2016

JiveSwing teachers, Joseph & Charlotte, have just finished another amazing June weekend in Hamburg, at Lindy Fiesta 2016.

This was the 2nd year, where Joseph & Charlotte, were working alongside super nice teachers Maxi and Agustina, from Argentina.  It was a great teaching team, with Lutz organising everything for us.

Joseph & Charlotte, put the students through their paces, sharing history, exciting moves and off course amazing jokes. It was really good to see the progression, of all the students, from the start to the end of each class, building confidence and technique over the weekend.

By the end of the class, Joseph & Charlotte, left their the usual signature trail of destruction, as students had so much excitement, they all collapsed after the last class.

In the evening, we all went social dancing, in the main town area, next to a beautiful lake..  The views were amazing, so after a few hot dances, with the students, we went for a short walk..

All in all, another great weekend.. Thanks so much to our super host Ishgard, for letting for organising our lovely accommodation and Lutz for organising such a fab weekend, with our friends Maxi and Agustina.

Charlotte and I can’t wait until 2017..

Havel Hop 2016 – Germany

So Havel Hop 2016, in Germany, was the next stop for JiveSwing teaching duo Joseph & Charlotte, on the first weekend in May.

It was their 4th visit, but this year was by far the best, with dancers from all over Germany and other countries.

Joseph & Charlotte were working alongside some of the worlds top teachers and competitors, such as Skye & Marie (USA/SWE), Peter & Naomi (USA), Sharon & Tony (UK), Lisa & Fabien (FR).

It was a really good team working together, as they were all so inspiring and such a pleasure to work and hang out with, creating a happy camp.. Joseph & Charlotte taught a mixture of Lindy Hop and Swing Blues..

The students worked really hard, producing great results, whilst having so much fun, together. However, after the last few classes, Joseph & Charlotte left their trade mark of wearing everyone out..

On the Saturday evening, all teachers provided a performance, where Joseph & Charlotte produced an impromptu and improvised social dance, to one of their favourite tracks..

It was amazing to have breakfast and dinner, outdoors near the water, with our fellow teachers and students.

A  massive thanks goes out to the Havel Hop organisers Talea, Holger, Franchesca and Veronica, for putting on such a great weekend and looking after us so well. Looking forward to doing it all again..

Swing City Zagreb 2016 – Croatia

So last weekend, JiveSwing Teachers Joseph & Charlotte’s tour took them to Croatia, for an event called Swing City Zagreb AKA SCZ 2016.

Now in it’s 3rd year, Swing City Zagreb is really friendly and fun dance weekend, with over 150 – 200 dancers coming from 14 different countries, including Norway,  Sweden, Netherlands, Germany, Austria, Czech Republic, Italy, Switzerland, France, UK, Spain, Australia, Slovenia, Serbia and off course Croatia.

Joseph and Charlotte put the students though their paces, with some profound techniques, authentic and high energy swing dance moves. Using their unique teaching skills, all students were showing signs of improving their dancing, by the end of each class.

By the end of the weekend, the intermediate students were extremely happy and excited, but feeling exhausted..

It also seemed, that the same thing happened to the remaining advanced Students on the Sunday afternoon too.. :-)

The Saturday evening was held in a beautiful venue, with a fabulous wooden floor, in the centre of Zagreb. The night was filled with approximately 200 dancers, from various countries.

During the evening, there was a Jack n Jill competition, where dancers from various countries, were battling for top prizes. The standard in the competition was great.

All teachers, performed cabaret entertainment, whilst music was provided by top DJ’s and the amazing band ‘The SwingTones’, lead by Matjaž Vertuš, from Slovenia.

Fellow teachers and some of the students, that made it to the last class, of the weekend.

The dancing each night, continued until the early hours of the morning. However, it didn’t stop the keen students for turning up to class, albeit a little sleepy on the Sunday..

A huge thanks to our amazing and loving organisers Tatjana and Goran, for putting on such a fantastic weekend. We had such a good time and looking forward to Swing City Zagreb 2017 already..
