Vintage Ball 2014

What a night! What an atmosphere! We could feel the excitement for the Vintage Ball 2014, building over the last few weeks, as everyone was discussing what they’re likely to wear. However, we were not prepared for such an awesome night, with up to 250 UK and international dancers.

JiveSwing DJ’s Michael Proctor,  Adeline Folcher and guest DJ’s Germaine Grimes and Fiona Benson, kept the floor moving and grooving all night until 4:00am.. To increase the excitement further, ‘The Bevin Boys’, were on top form, followed by the amazing trio, ‘The Polka Dot Dolls‘, who kept everyone dancing throughout there set..

However, one of the big highlights of the night, was the cabaret curated by Charlotte Middlemiss. Charlie’s Angels looked as glamourous as ever, along with the JiveSwing Hoppers, plus a debut performance, from Alex & Alison, with their Shag routine, plus JiveSwing Stompers, featuring lots of new dancers from Chelmsford. The crowd went wild :-)

Huge thanks to Debbie Spratt and her team of volunteers, Kevin & Rachel, Nick & Lindsey, Alex & Sarah, David and Raju, for managing the night, along with everyone that attended the JiveSwing Vintage Ball 2014.

Comments on the night, included “Best Vintage Ball ever”. Great Food!.. The atmosphere, was truly electric, right up until after 4:00am! This did not feel like a dance event, it felt like one huge family reunion, where everyone, including partners who were dragged along by dancers, were having so much fun.. You could feel the JiveSwing love..  As the team packed away, looking weary, we were all still excited enough to discuss The Vintage Ball 2015.. Watch this space!!

International Ballroom Festival – Yorkshire

The JiveSwing All-Star members, Joseph Sewell, Charlotte Middlemiss, Alex Gall and Jodie Sharman, had the pleasure of performing at one of the UK’s largest Ballroom events, that has been going since 1944.

After some good ol fashion, sea side fish n chips, (in true style) the four members, wowed the full house audience with high energy 1920’s Charleston and Lindy Hop performances.

Swing On The Beach 2014 – ITALY

During August approximately 26 dancers from JiveSwing attended Swing On the Beach, a popular swing dance festival on the beach of Pescara, Italy.  The event featured a line of top Bands, performing on the beach, including the Polka Dot Dolls, from the UK, which features dancers from JiveSwing.

The weekend also featured workshops, by a wide range of teachers, including JiveSwing’s very own Joseph & Charlotte, alongside Alison Marsh and Alex Gall, who all took part in several improvised demos.

Dancers came from all over Italy and other countries, to descend on this unspoilt beach, with the most amazing restaurants, Gelateria and coffee shops. The atmosphere in the evenings was awesome, particularly the after parties, which continued in the small hours of the morning, once the main acts on the beach, had finished.

However, when the after party finished on Sunday Night (actually 4:30AM on Monday), the desperate dancers, took to the streets to dance outside a crepe stand. An amazing time was had by all and it seems, the JiveSwing gang will all be going back again, next August..

Nicola Wood, JiveSwing’s event Project manager stated.. “A very different Village Green for me this year, but an amazing day leading the JiveSwing vintage tent with an awesome team! So much fun helping Alex Gall teach packed swing dance classes all day, stepped in as an impromptu compare for the fashion show, and finished in style with the wonderful My Favourite Things taking the stage and everyone watching.. “

What an amazing All-Dayer, without doubt the best atmosphere by far. After 7 years of running this event, we took a bold move of moving it to Beechen Grove Baptist Church. It was a really nice day of workshops, with two levels and taster classes in Shag, Dips & Tricks, Authentic Jazz etc, with an evening dance to celebrate Frankie 100. Bringing the amazing 10 piece Billy Bros. Swing Orchestra from Italy, was a HUGE investment, but boy did they swing.. It was just like Basie or Chic Webb, playing to a packed dance floor.

The feedback from everyone, regarding both the workshops and the evening dance, has been really positive both on the night and after. :-)

Thanks to all teachers, Charlie’s Angels Authentic Jazz Dance Group, Billy Bros. Swing Orchestra and everyone who attended and contributed to such an amazing night.
