Big JiveSwing Jazz Festival 2017 – Watford

On Sunday 30th July, just under 2000 people, attended the UK’s largest FREE Jive, Swing, Vintage and Jazz Festival, now termed ‘The Big JiveSwing Festival’, organised by JiveSwing.Com and Watford Borough Council.                                                         .

Whilst held in Cassiobury Park, Watford, due to the popularity of the event, now in it’s 5th year, Watford locals, dancers and families, came not only from Hertfordshire, but all over the UK.

As people started to arrive, the afternoon kicked off with, Jeep Jump Jive, DJ Micheal Proctor and one of London’s leading bands, Down for the Count.

Followed by performances, by Charlie’s Angels, one of the UK’s leading All-Female dance performance troupes and the Last Chance Ragtime Band.

Crowds gathered, towards the performance stage, as the all new JiveSwing Hoppers, exciting everyone with their acrobatic 1940’s Lindy Hop and 1950’s Rock n Roll routines.

As the afternoon warmed up, it was time for the ‘JiveAces’, as seen on Britain’s got talent, who welcomed JiveSwing’s very own Joseph Sewell & Charlotte Middlemiss, as seen on BBC Wartime Farm, to perform an impromptu improvised 1940’s Acrobatic Lindy Hop dance to one of their songs.

During each show, there were free dance classes, where JiveSwing dance teacher Joseph Sewell, got  hundreds of people up on the floor participating, creating a rapturous atmosphere.

The final band of the day, was Stolen Moments, from north London, followed by a few tracks from the DJ. Crowds gravitated towards the dance floor area and kept dancing until the very end.

Everyone cheered and clapped, as we made the final announcement, that the date for the Big JiveSwing Festival 2018, is already set for 29th July 2018, so put the date in your diary now. :-)

JiveSwing At Larks In The Parks

The JiveSwing Team, led by JiveSwing Teacher Chris Barclay, provided the entertainment at this years Larks In the Parks.

Dancers from our classes and people from all over Hertfordshire were attended, as Chris and Claire provided a fun class, showing absolute beginners how to dance. After the class, people got up to dance to the Fleetville Swing Band.

New Years Extravaganza 2017 – Watford

JiveSwing.Com’s 2017 launched successfully, with Harlem Nights annual New Years Extravaganza event. Dancers came from Hertfordshire, Essex, Bedfordshire, Cambridge, Berkshire, London and other parts of the UK, for an exciting night of dancing.

Harlem Nights, is normally held on the first Saturday of each month, but January is used to celebrate the new year and October is used to raise funds for charity.  DJ Michael Proctor and the Philips Swing Septet, kept the floor moving as dancers exploded into Jams and Authentic Jazz strolls, till the end of the evening. Thanks to all the teachers, Musicians, DJ’s and dancers from all over, that help to create such an amazing atmosphere at Harlem Nights.

JiveSwing Jazz Festival 2016 – Watford

Last Sunday 24th July, approximately 1,700 people gathered for the 4th JiveSwing Jazz Festival, held at Cassiobury Park in Watford, for a sunny day of Music, Dancing, Dance Classes and Cabaret.

This amazing FREE event is sponsored by HLF and Watford Council, with JiveSwing.Com being the event organiser, providing the entertainment and pulling it all together.

The day started with recorded music, from the fabulous Jeep, Jump Jive, playing out of their military Jeep, then Live Music from the Tony Oliver Jazz Band and Down for the Count, featured above, from London

Over a thousand people were mesmerised, as the JiveSwing Hoppers and Charlie’s Angels dance troupe, took to the floor with their high energy Lindy Hop and Jazz Routines, just before we had the internationally acclaimed JiveAces, as seen on ITV’s Britain’s Got Talent.

After a warm set and a number of classes, Joseph, Charlotte , Mike Down for the Count’s band leader and the JiveAces took to Jeep Jump Jive’s Jeep, for a quick break, before the final set by Cliff Longhurst and his 18 Piece Jazz Knights, Swing Orchestra

We’d like to say a huge thanks to all musicians, performers,  all the JiveSwing Crew and Watford Town Council, for making last Sunday, an amazing JiveSwing Jazz Festival.

Shuttleworth Hangar Dance 2016

Last week, JiveSwing teachers Chris Barclay, accompanied the JiveSwing Hoppers and Charlie’s Angels to the first Hangar Dance at the historic Shuttleworth, in Bedfordshire, who host a collection of amazing Edwardian Flying Machines.

The JiveSwing Hoppers opened up the show, during the day, performing just outside the Hangar with exhilarating Lindy Hop numbers, which got the audience going.

This was followed by some of the Charlie’s Angels team, one of the UK’s leading all female dance troupe, above

Finally, JiveSwing teacher Chris Barclay got lots of people up, on the dance floor, to learn a few steps, before dancing to the a faboulous DJ set from the amazing Jeep Jump Jive and the live music from the stunning Polka Dot Dolls, an all female trio, who kept, the crowds going :-)
