Swing Classes ...ABOUT THE NIGHT

YOUR FIRST EXPERIENCE..

When you arrive, you will be greeted by our friendly reception that will guide you through 'Whats What'. We encourage all students to join in the beginners class which lasts for 50mins. You will have 10 mins to practice, drink tea and make new friends before the next class, which lasts a further 50 mins. Its after this time we hope that you stay on & try out your new moves and dance with more experienced Lindy hoppers!

WHAT WILL YOU LEARN?

Whilst you will generally learn Lindy Hop as
seen in many of the orginal clips of Harlem
dancers, from time to time you will be
introduced to a variety of other styles
including Balboa, Charleston and Blues.

Our main focus is making things simple and breaking it all down into manageable bits. Classes are taught in a style that makes it fun, friendly and easy to learn. We can also recommend music that you can practice with at home.

DIRECTIONS?

Now that your eager to learn Lindy Hop, you need directions. Please remember to check out our Calendar as our Thursday class moves every 3rd Thursday in the month!

Beginners Class

Starts at 8.00pm -8.50pm

Beginners Lindy Hop:

Whilst you can drop in seamlessly on any Thursday night, a fresh beginners cycle runs every 6 - 8 weeks covering key fundamental moves. We rotate people around every few minutes.

Wednesday nights in Essex are run using a similar format, but you will need to book in advance for a 6 week course.

At the end of your first class, you'll leave with at least 3 - 5 moves that you can use straight away to impress your friends with!!

Progressive Class

Starts at 9.00pm-9.50pm

Progressive level :

Here you learn build upon the fundamental moves already learnt in the beginners class. We will teach you a number of variations, asumming you know the basic Swing Outs, Lindy Turn, Circles and Charleston.

You will start to learn more challenging footwork and moves to enhance your social dancing, whilst improving style and lead / follow techniques.

Practice/ Freestyle

Starts at 9.50pm -11.00ish

Practice/Freestyle:

This is a great opportunity to practice the moves learnt in class with lots of other dancers. We encourage all students to stay on and dance with other students. We find that people who do stay till the end seem to progress quicker and grasp new concepts and moves a lot more easier.

The music varies from the 1930s to some of today's
classics neo tracks. You'll hear a good selection of Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Chick Webb, Glen Miller, Ella Fitzgerald , Slim & Slam, Benny Goodman etc.

NB: There is no freestyle on Monday night.
