Juan Villafane

From Buenos Aires, Argentina

JUAN VILLAFANE

Flying all the way from Buenos Aires, Argentina is Juan, "the man" who made his popular UK debut at GNSH 2008 last February.

Not only does he dress slick, but he sounds a bit like Al Pacino (so.. don't ask him about his business :o)

Juan is a leading proponent in the revival of vintage jazz dances in South America.

His background in gymnastics, acrobatics and martial arts, as well as his degree in Physical Education strongly influences his dancing and teaching, giving him a unique perspective on body movement and awareness, and a distinct - and often spectacular - personal style.

Known for his flashy high-flying acrobatics and eye-catching slides, Juan is a consumate performer, a creative dancer and an insightful teacher, in a variety of swing dances, including Lindy Hop, Balboa, Shag and Authentic Jazz.

Sharon will be teaching with Juan during the weekend, where together, they are currently sought after to teach and perform around world.

She has been performing, teaching and competing in vintage jazz dances since 2001 at various prestigious competitions and events in the USA, Europe and Australia.

.In Lindy Hop, Blues and Charleston, Sharon is admired for her unique and feminine style, musicality and energy. Sharon has also built an international reputation in solo jazz dances, including 1920s Charleston, authentic jazz, solo blues and burlesque.

Sharon has a background in theatre, and is co-founder of Australian burlesque troupe Sugar Blue Burlesque , with which she has delighted audiences with her graceful feather fan dances and sassy showgirl antics.

In addition she is an Ultimate Lindy Hop Showdown champion, and has claimed numerous awards in Australia and internationally. As an instructor and DJ, Sharon is known for her dedication to the history of vernacular jazz dances and the music they evolved to. With her bright and bubbly personality, Sharon's teaching style is energetic, creative and fun.

Sharon will be teaching with Juan during the weekend, where together, they are currently sought after to teach and perform around world.

From Hertfordshire, UK

JOSEPH SEWELL

Joseph has been teaching since 1996,
starting out with the UK's largest dance organisation and moved on to set up JiveSwing.Com as demand for him to travel and share his passion for Lindy Hop increased.

Starting out life as a Hip Hop and Break Dancer, he knew how to wow a crowd in the school playground. These days he can be seen dancing Lindy Hop, Balboa, Blues, 20's Charleston and Authentic Jazz, where he is an extremely keen (possibly excessive) social dancer and generally the last person to leave the dance floor.

Always on a quest to learn more about the dance, his creativity as an engineer has manifested itself in his ability to design ways to convey thought provoking social dance techniques and develop new moves and articulate them in a clear and concise manner, whilst teaching. As for where his jokes come from.. well… that's another story .

Joseph will be teaching with Trisha during the weekend, where together they won the UK Lindy Hop Championships in 2002 and have been responsible for developing the swing scene in Hertfordshire and Essex and have taught internationally at most major events all over the UK and Europe.
